Transform your government's excel-based financial statements into iXBRL

A free, open-source tool under development to convert local government audited financial statements from excel to iXBRL.

Getting Started

This tool is being developed to be simple and straightforward, and requires no technical skills beyond Microsoft Excel  basics and some knowledge of finances.  It works best for smaller general purpose local governments with relatively simple finances.

  • To get started, download the excel template. This easy to use template lets you input financial statements that can be converted to iXBRL.  Instructions for filling out the template are provided in the first tab of the excel file.

Once you've entered your data into the template excel sheet, simply select "Choose file(s))" below. You will select the excel sheet, and can also upload 0-5 word documents which may include content such as auditors letters, notes, or other text. Once you have selected files, you can adjust their ordering. Then, simply select "combine and convert files". Please be patient, the conversion may take up to one minute or possibly more, depending on the number of files being uploaded.

Once the conversion is finished, you can download the XBRL-formatted data as an html file which you can use to shae with others, or simply click to view in an iXBRL viewer.
