Teaching
CLOSUP's second core component, in addition to its research and information provision activities, is its teaching function. Several of the programs described elsewhere, such as the collaborative research projects, faculty seminars, research grants, and web site provide important educational opportunities and resources for undergraduate and graduate students from across the University's departments and schools. CLOSUP may also make available small sums of money to encourage the development of undergraduate and graduate courses on state, local, and urban policy issues. In addition, the CLOSUP Director often teaches courses through the Ford School of Public Policy. Finally, CLOSUP staff work with the Ford School Career Services Office to sponsor summer internship opportunities for students interested in obtaining hands-on experience in state or local government.
Currently, Brian Jacob, CLOSUP Director, teaches the Ford School course known as the Policy Analysis Practicuum (PP632), in which student teams work on applied policy projects for public sector and non-profit organizations
